My work with landscape photography has provided me with many skills to apply to other aspects of my work such as wedding photography. The unique combinations of Gower landscapes and nature’s elements have taught me how to look at people, places, events and occasions from every perspective. My knowledge and anticipation of ever-changing quality and colour of light, or the patience in waiting to capture just the right moment of a sunset, are especially valuable in creating unique portfolios of wedding photographs.

My senses are tuned to capture even a fleeting moment in time. From my perspective, I call upon the same skill to freeze that instant when a wave hits a rock as I do when capturing the expressions on the faces of two newly-weds when confetti is showered on them.

The starting point for my wedding photography is well in advance of the day itself; the bride and groom explain to me what they expect of this, the biggest day of their lives and how they would like events documented. By approaching each and every wedding celebration with an open mind, by understanding how the events of the day will unfold and by managing the timing of events I am able to ensure the key players are relaxed and enjoying their special day.

Whilst my easy-going approach has gained me a reputation for delivering distinctive and highly imaginative portfolios of wedding photographs, I still maintain an element of control through the structure of the wedding day, so that I can ensure that the wishes of the bride and groom are carried out. My work documents the story of the day from the details of the flowers and fine embroidery on the bride’s dress to the loving smile between two newly-weds and the pride of a father walking his daughter down the aisle. The resulting portfolio records their treasured memories and evokes the magic of spontaneity.

During your Wedding

I will take about 1,000 photographs during your wedding celebrations, many of which you will not be aware I have taken. The moments that define the spirit of a wedding day may not always be the most obvious ones – a telling glance between sisters, an emotional tear shed by the mother of the bride, a father’s pride and joy, the elation of good friends, and a quiet moment between newlyweds. All this may be just beyond the circle of celebration.

During your wedding, my hope is to be as unobtrusive as possible, yet I will capture the essence of the day with the same insight and freshness that distinguishes my work as a landscape photographer. This easy-going approach has gained me a reputation for delivering distinctive and highly imaginative portfolios of wedding photographs that reflect my enjoyment in revealing the stories behind the main fairy tale. I aim to present you with a record of treasured memories that will evoke the magic of spontaneity.

Before the wedding day

I need to get an understanding of what you want to happen on the wedding day, the photos you require and how you would like me to conduct myself during the day. I am happy to stage-manage as many, or as few, formal and group shots as you would like. My work will document the day and record many unique moments.

We will also work out a plan to cover, for example, timings, the movement of people from church to reception venue and decide on the best places for you to be photographed. With my experience I can suggest some ideas so that you don’t have to think or worry about any of the organizational side of things on the day. The best photographs are taken when you are relaxed and enjoying yourself.

Then, on the wedding day –

I usually start about two hours before the service/ceremony and cover events until you sit down for food.

I will be at your wedding not only as a photographer, but also to help you in the running of the day. For example, I will liaise with the car people, the ushers, the vicar or registrar and the co-coordinator at the venue who, in turn, will keep the Chef well advised as to exact timings. It is vital to keep Chef happy – after all he is preparing a special meal for your guests and he wants it to be his best. I will even make sure that the button holes are all correct! In other words, I hope to ensure that your day flows without any fuss.

This way, you can enjoy a glass of champagne with your guests while I take pictures of a relaxed and stress-free bride, happy that her guests are enjoying themselves.

After the wedding

Back at my studio, the pictures will be edited, at which time they will be cropped to a standard size. They are taken in such a high format that I will be able to crop into an image, then blow-up that part of the image to any size you require without losing quality.

All the wedding day images will be available to you as colour, black and white, sepia or a mixture (i.e. part of the photograph in black and white and part of the same image in colour).

The wedding package

The pictures will be presented to you in a booklet and on a disc for viewing on your computer, as well as being on my website for which you can have a password to enable your family and friends to view the entire portfolio.

Included in my price, you then have two choices. You can either:

(1) Select

100 pictures @ 7x5,or

20 @ 10x8 and 50 @ 7x5 - there are a few combinations.

These pictures come to you loose so that you can frame them, create your own art work, put them into your own album or simply give some away as presents.

Selected pictures can be printed at high quality on many different media from the traditional glossy photograph, lustre, canvas to fine art water-colour media - great for all types of displays. When we meet up I will show you these formats.

(2) Instead of the 100 loose photos, you can have £100 credit towards an album of images. I offer a great choice of styles that vary in size, design and thickness, from the traditional to the storybook. You might like to come and see a few samples before deciding on your personal album. Most albums cost around £400 (from which you can deduct the £100) and include free hands-on personal design service.

Albums I use are Graph Storybook, G.F. Smith, Spicer Hallfield, Jorgensen, Queensbury and the very stylish Gull Albums. I will be more than happy to show you all of these.

Another idea – you might like to put the £100 credit towards some art work such as canvas prints, framing, mirror block art etc. There are lots of possibilities and ideas.

The WEDDING PACKAGE FEE

I charge £950 + V.A.T. for the day, for which I take all the photographs you require - from all the usual, set groups to loads of candid reportage pictures. This price includes option (1) or option (2) as mentioned above.

Alternatively, I offer a cheaper package of £250 + V.A.T. per hour, where I am at your wedding within the time you specify. My fee includes a booklet, cd, and access to your portfolio via my website (all as above). You would choose 20 pictures per hour so, for example, if I was with you for three hours, my price would include 60 pictures @ 7x5.
